Sustainable and Supramolecular Chemistry Research Group

Department of Inorganic and Organic Chemistry. Jaume I University (Castellon, Spain)

Our research includes diverse areas, such as biomimetic chemistry, functional polymeric materials or catalysis, for the development of new tools in sustainable chemistry.

The work with catalytic systems covers the preparation of new ligands for enantioselective catalysis, the development of organometallic, organocatalytic and biocatalytic catalytic processes for their application in the synthesis of organic products, in the production of biodiesel and, in general, in the transformation of renewable raw materials, including carbon dioxide. The different chemo and biocatalysts have been prepared using nanostructured functional materials developed by our group, especially using supported ionic liquids, and have been applied to obtain efficient and sustainable processes with green solvents and under flow conditions.

Our work in biomimetic chemistry has recently focused on the use of simple pseudopeptide compounds as starting materials for the preparation of systems capable of selective recognition, self-assembly or catalysis, but also for the preparation of different "molecular machines". This allows to obtain systems capable of providing a controlled release of active substances (fragrances and compounds of pharmacological interest) and supramolecular sensors, or to obtain fundamental information on the role of anions in order to analyze the properties of peptide systems through supramolecular interactions.
